Care and Maintenance

When you have chosen your floor, and have had it installed by a professional you can be sure you will be provided with a good outline as it pertains to the proper maintenance and care of your hardwood. By simply following a few of our suggested floor care tips listed below you will prolong the lustre and longevity of your new addition.

Always vacuum with the proper attachment meant for hardwood floors.
Vacuuming with the proper hardwood attachment is the best way to provide regular maintenance to your floors.
Never clean or wet mop with water. Do not use a Steam Mop on any wood floor!!! Water or steam may permanently damage the floor.
Do not roll or slide heavy objects directly upon the floor. When moving appliances or heavy furniture, consider laying a solid protective covering on your floor and gently “walk” the item across it. Carpet or cardboard is not adequate to prevent surface compression scratches.
Use furniture leg protector pads under all furniture and make certain to keep them clean and well maintained.
Be sure to keep the nails of your pet trimmed so as to prevent unnecessary scratching, and try to avoid walking in high-heeled shoes if possible.
Vacuum, sweep or dust mop your floor once a week, or more if needed. These days a simple Swiffer-style broom with a soft disposable cloth is most appropriate, easy and effective.
Use interior and exterior doormats at entrances to collect dirt and moisture and place larger area rugs below and around furnishings. click, highlight, then copy and paste to your browser the link below for a great article on Maintenance from the NWFA.
